About RSCM France
RSCM France officially came into existence in April 2011. It was when John Crothers, a former Chair of RSCM Ireland, now living in the Paris area, realised that Shirley Rowson, from the other end of the country, was already involved with the RSCM's training schemes that the pair met to discuss the possibility of setting up an Area structure to coordinate and spread the RSCM's work.
‘Our ultimate aim,’ says John, ‘is to allow as many churches and schools as possible to benefit from all that the RSCM has to offer in France. The national territory is large so, while we are keen to be professional in everything we do, we believe it is vital to offer the “personal touch” to each member.’ The internet is proving a valuable means of contact between the committee and those who are already members, some five churches and nine individuals. And the France Area Committee, likewise geographically widespread, ‘meets’ around computer screens, as meetings take place by videoconference.
‘Listening carefully to the needs of our members will be crucial to the setting up of courses and festivals,’ continues John. ‘In May 2011, at the France Anglican Archdeaconry Synod, a survey was carried out which will allow us to plan strategically for the future.’ At the Synod, Shirley and Martin van Bleek presented the work of the RSCM with a specially recorded video message from Director Lindsay Gray.
