Young People's Courses
The RSCM is well-known for its courses for young people, incorporating the ever-popular ingredients of a broad range of choral repertoire, vocal development, fun and friendship. These courses are an ideal complement to the Voice for Life programme, and build upon the training that choristers receive in their own choirs.

Church Organist Courses
The RSCM’s programme of short organ courses offers organists the chance to learn new skills and improve their existing talents, to meet new friends and colleagues, and to enjoy some of the most beautiful cathedrals and churches in the UK.
Over the years, many organists have appreciated the RSCM’s range of organ courses, which aims to cater for church organists and accompanists of church choirs. Whether you are just beginning your organ playing career or have many years of experience, you will find support, encouragement and expert teaching on our courses. Many students have found an immediate and noticeable improvement in their service playing; why not ask your church to help fund a course place for you?
The RSCM is offering two courses for organists during 2008, in beautiful medieval cities in the south and north of England. These courses complement the new RSCM Skills of the Church Musician training scheme.

Singing Breaks
For adults who enjoy choral singing, there are opportunities to sing a variety of wonderful music in beautiful and inspiring places. Singing breaks, as well as courses offered locally through our voluntary network (see Area pages), offer musical and spiritual refreshment, and are particularly recommended for those using the Voice for Life training scheme in their own churches or choirs.
In 2008, the singing breaks will be administered locally, rather than from the RSCM Administrative Office. Please note the different booking arrangements below.

Saturday 24 – Monday 26 May 2008 Knighton, Powys Price (non-residential): £125 (£150 non-members) |
![]() The annual 'Pilgrimage of Song' is a short course with a difference. It visits some of the most beautifully situated churches in this very rural part of mid-Wales (one of Britain's undiscovered treasures), with walks from church to church (transport is available for those who prefer not to walk) and singing of services throughout the day. Based in Knighton, one of the towns on Offa's Dyke, the course will explore a group of churches further to the west, which haven't been included in previous courses. Looking at the lives of the saints associated with those churches, the focus will be "Living out our Christian vocation". The course concludes with a walk to the atmospheric valley of Abbeycwmhir and the closing act of worship in the Abbey ruins. There will be musical, spiritual and physical challenges during the weekend - don't miss this unique opportunity! This is a non-residential course, and a list of B&B accommodation is available on request. Please note the booking arrangements for this course: |

DUNBLANE SINGING BREAK Director: Gordon Appleton |
Monday 14 – Thursday 17 July 2008 Scottish Churches House, Dunblane Price: £237 (£285 non-members) Non-residential price: £164 (£210 non-members) |
![]() Now in its eleventh year, this course offers opportunities to enjoy stimulating music-making in the beautiful surroundings of an historic Scottish town. Dunblane Cathedral is a superb venue for daily services accompanied on the wonderful Flentrop organ. Gordon Appleton directs the course, assisted by Chris Broughton, vocal tutor, and Matthew Beetschen, cathedral organist. Singers who attend this course appreciate the opportunity to learn new repertoire, improve their music skills and value the fellowship and worship. Services follow the traditions of both the Church of Scotland and the Scottish Episcopal Church, and are led by clergy of different denominations. Much of the music used will be suitable for small choirs but there will be works to challenge too (in 2007 we included Give unto the Lord by Elgar). We expect to welcome many singers from outside the UK to this course. The sharing of experiences by singers from church choirs all over the world is particularly valued by the participants. Scottish Churches House, adjacent to the cathedral, provides excellent food and hospitality in twin-bedded rooms. An option of bed and breakfast in the city is possible. We meet on Monday for lunch, and finish mid-morning on Thursday. Please note the booking arrangements for this course: For more information contact Brian Baker T: 01786 821294; E: dunblanesingingbreak(at)rscmscotland.org |
