Easter Course for Organists
Making a joyful noise in Salisbury at Easter
There are still places available on the Easter Course for Organists at Sarum College in Salisbury during the Easter holiday week.
The course, which is organised by the Royal School of Church Music (this year celebrating the 80th anniversary of its foundation), will make use of several organs in Salisbury, including the splendid Father Willis organ in the Cathedral. All abilities will be catered for in small groups. Each will get to grips with matters such as repertoire, technique and service playing. A number of other skills will be covered, including simple improvisation, historical styles of playing, as well as accompanying choirs and congregations. Course participants will have ample opportunity to practise, discuss, attend seminars and relax in the beautiful setting of the Cathedral Close.
A team of expert, yet sympathetic, tutors will be led by Robert Fielding, Director of Music at Romsey Abbey nearby. "Playing the organ can be a solitary business, so a course such as this is an invaluable opportunity for organists to share thoughts, stories and issues, and to realise they are not alone. I hope they will go away refreshed and inspired!"
The course is based at Sarum College, in the shadow of the spire of Salisbury Cathedral, and runs from Tuesday 10th April until Friday 13th April 2007. The full board price is £495 (£410 for RSCM affiliates and individual members). To apply contact RSCM course bookings, 19 The Close, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP1 2EB, UK. Telephone 01722 424844.
