Let's make a musical!

“The mission (should you choose to accept it) is to stage a musical in only 4 days…”

That’s the invitation to young people in the UK; to be part of a residential course run by the Royal School of Church Music in the Whitsun half-term break.

The musical is called ‘Crikey Moses!’ by Sheila Wilson. A fun and thought-provoking musical about Moses, Pharaoh, the bulrushes, the burning bush, the plagues, the ten commandments and more!  Those who take part in the course will not just be singing; there’s dancing, acting, costume and prop making and there’ll also be games and film evenings to relax and get to know each other.  It is ideal for children aged about 8 to 13.

This is the first RSCM course of its kind. “It’ll be quite a challenge,” says Leah Perona- Wright, the course director. “But it will be great fun and bring together the skills and abilities of the participants to produce a fabulous final performance of ‘Crikey Moses’ for the parents and families to watch at the end of the course.”

The course called “Let’s make a musical” takes place during the Whitsun half-term holiday from Monday 28th until Thursday 31st May 2007 at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire. The cost of the residential course is £265 (£220 for RSCM affiliates and individual members).

“There is plenty to do,” says Leah. “Those on the course can take a part in the chorus, or take a small speaking part if they would like, but there is no pressure on anyone to do more than they feel comfortable with.” Leah Perona-Wright, who directs a youth choir herself, is convinced that being part of a project such as this is a confidence building experience. “It will allow those taking part to develop their singing, dancing and acting abilities and just relax and enjoy being on stage! I hope that lots of young people will accept the seemingly impossible mission; come and join me for four days and turn some musical mayhem into a fantastic final performance of ‘Crikey Moses!”
