Anniversary Service for Sir Sydney Nicholson: 30 May, Sarum College
A service at Sarum College, Salisbury is being arranged to give thanks for the life and works of Sir Sydney Nicholson, founder of the RSCM, at 4pm on 30th May, the 60th anniversary of his death.
RSCM members are very welcome to join us on this occasion. If you wish to do so, please let us know (01722 424848 or enquiries(at)rscm.com) for catering purposes.
The service
The service is being led by The Reverend Canon Mark Bonney, Canon Treasurer of Salisbury Cathedral and member of RSCM Council.
The music
All the music to be used at the service was composed by Nicholson, including some as yet unpublished organ music.
- Hymns:
We sing the praise of him who died (Bow Brickhill, with verse variations by Nicholson)
Lift high the cross (Crucifer) - Introit: Therefore was there a covenant of peace (from the Office of St Nicolas – RSCM Patron Saint)
- Psalm 121 set to plainsong tones with faux-bourdons
- Anthem: God be in my head
The Sarum College Chapel Choir will be directed by Tim Ruffer, Head of Publishing at the RSCM.
