Wanted for music charity: Director with flair and vision

The Council of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) has begun the search for a visionary and inspirational successor, to build upon the achievements of Professor John Harper, who steps down later this year after ten successful years in the post. Advertisements are appearing in the national and music press from the beginning of June.

The successful applicant will lead an organisation which has a membership of over 8,500 affiliated churches, and schools and individual members worldwide. The RSCM’s work embraces education and training, publishing, and an international network of volunteers who organise a wide range of events. This year the RSCM is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

Mark Williams, Chairman of the RSCM Council said today, "The RSCM is a great organisation both at national and international level; leading it is a challenging and demanding responsibility but incredibly important. John Harper has done an outstanding job to innovate our training programmes and to reinvigorate the RSCM to meet the demands of the 21st century church musician. We are looking for someone with appropriate flair and vision to continue that work; such an individual will be a well-respected church musician who is passionate about education, and who possesses proven managerial and business acumen."

The new Director will be required to provide inspirational leadership to staff and volunteers. The post, which is full-time, is based at the RSCM’s office in Salisbury, Wiltshire with a salary of at least £45,000pa plus pension and other benefits. The post is subject to an enhanced CRB disclosure.

Full details of the advertised post are available here or from Sally Butt, Office Manager, RSCM, 19 The Close, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP1 2EB. E-mail sbutt(at)rscm.com Tel: 01722 424848.
