RSCM Millennium Youth Choir appears on Songs of Praise, 17th September
During a hectic week at the end of August, the RSCM Millennium Youth Choir found time during its Summer Course to record four items for “Songs of Praise”, which was broadcast on BBC1 on 17th September 2006. Forty singers, directed by David Ogden, and accompanied by a small instrumental ensemble, were filmed at St Jude’s Church, Hampstead Garden Suburb, for a programme focusing on new churches and “fresh expressions”.
Pieces sung by the choir on the programme included Every time I feel the spirit by Bob Chilcott, The love of God comes close by John Bell, and All are welcome by Marty Haugen.
Director of the RSCM Millennium Youth Choir, David Ogden, said: “The producer, Garry Boon, was very impressed with everybody’s commitment, professionalism and sense of fun. He said that the choir looked and sounded fantastic.”
The recording was part of a very busy summer course for the choir, which also included singing services at St Paul’s Cathedral in London and Winchester Cathedral, as well as a live broadcast of Choral Evensong on BBC Radio 3 from Romsey Abbey. The next event is a weekend in Cambridge on 21st and 22nd October, during which the choir will be part of a live service of Sunday Worship on BBC Radio 4 at 8.10am on Sunday 22nd October.
