It has come to our attention that some of our advertisers have been approached by criminals pretending to be genuine customers. These scams usually originate outside the UK and are usually conducted by email. Initial emails may seem like genuine enquiries but further emails usually request convoluted and bogus payment schemes.

When selling anything through our classified adverts, we recommend the following points:

  • If possible, try to speak to the potential buyer by telephone. Email scammers are rarely willing to speak to their victims.
  • Try to establish the buyer's interest in what you are selling. Scammers rarely actually want the thing you are selling; they are after your money.
  • Do not agree to any scheme that involves you receiving payment from an unknown third party, perhaps described as a client or associate of the buyer.
  • Do not agree to pay anything yourself. A common scam involves you receiving a large payment from a fictional client of the buyer, far in excess of the value of the item that you are selling. You are then asked to pay the balance to your buyer as well as sending them the item.
  • Do not disclose your bank account details to anyone.

Please be assured that there are many genuine customers out there, interested in what you have to sell. We simply want to make you aware of these dangers.

St Martin's has a committed choir and worship group of both children and adults. The applicant should be a skilled organist and pianist interested in developing worship that brings together traditional and modern hymns, anthems and chants. Twyford Church of England Academies Trust, Acton W3 9PP is seeking to appoint a Vocal Coach / Choir Master for January 2016. We are looking for a dynamic and well-qualified Vocal Coach / Choir Master to provide vocal coaching and choir training to support the Singing Strategy of Twyford CE Academies Trust (comprising two schools in West London). Responsibilities include planning and rehearsing Worship Music for Communions and delivering an engaging Singing Strategy for Years 7 & 8 across the Trust. St. Peter’s Church, Mountsorrel, Nr. Loughborough, invites enquiries for the post of organist. St. Peter’s has one Sunday service, plus a number of feast-day services during the year. Director of Music and Worship Leader. St Mary, Goudhurst, Kent. Parish Church of St Nicolas, Guildford. We are looking to recruit a Director of Music & Organist to start this autumn. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Froyle, in the Benefice of Bentley, Binsted & Froyle, Alton, Hampshire seeks to appoint an organist to replace the late Stephen Thomson and our current choir master who steps down after 10 years’ service. Diocese of Guildford: St Mary the Virgin, Shalford. Following retirement of our long-standing Director of Music, we are looking for an Organist/DOM from early 2016. We have a newly installed Allen Digital Organ (two manual + pedals, with English, French & Baroque sound suites) to replace our pipe organ which is in need of restoration, in a recently reordered, bright and welcoming church. St George, Bickley (Bromley/Zone 5) seeks to appoint a Director of Music and Organist from January 2016, for duty on Sundays, and in the evening on some Holy Days. A small but able choir sings a Mass setting and anthem. There is an excellent two-manual Walker organ, and a superb acoustic. We observe the complete liturgies of Holy Week. Choral Evensong is sung 3-4 times a year. The successful applicant will be available as described, and to rehearse the choir on Thursday evenings. St. Mary’s Parish Church, Barnard Castle: We are seeking to appoint an organist whose gifts will enhance our worship in this market town parish. We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced church organist for the parish church of Churston Ferrers (part of the Brixham Mission Community) to play the organ in our services (one family based service or Eucharist per week- on a Sunday morning) plus weddings and funerals and to support and encourage our small adult choir (RSCM affiliated).
