Note to Advertisers

It has come to our attention that some of our advertisers have been approached by criminals pretending to be genuine customers. These scams usually originate outside the UK and are usually conducted by email. Initial emails may seem like genuine enquiries but further emails usually request convoluted and bogus payment schemes.

When selling anything through our classified adverts, we recommend the following points:

  • If possible, try to speak to the potential buyer by telephone. Email scammers are rarely willing to speak to their victims.
  • Try to establish the buyer's interest in what you are selling. Scammers rarely actually want the thing you are selling; they are after your money.
  • Do not agree to any scheme that involves you receiving payment from an unknown third party, perhaps described as a client or associate of the buyer.
  • Do not agree to pay anything yourself. A common scam involves you receiving a large payment from a fictional client of the buyer, far in excess of the value of the item that you are selling. You are then asked to pay the balance to your buyer as well as sending them the item.
  • Do not disclose your bank account details to anyone.

Please be assured that there are many genuine customers out there, interested in what you have to sell. We simply want to make you aware of these dangers.

Director of Music and Worship Leader. St Mary, Goudhurst, Kent. We are seeking an organist and worship leader to lead and develop our choir and band, and to help our worship to flourish and our faith to grow. St Mary’s is a growing village church with a clear vision and a desire to worship God in a wide variety of music styles, from traditional to contemporary. We are looking for a committed Christian who is a servant hearted musician, to nurture that breadth of expression. We are open to the role being done by more than one person, perhaps one who is an organist and another who is a worship leader most comfortable with contemporary music. Contract: Permanent. Location: Esher, Surrey. Organist. All Saints Weston Green in the Diocese of Guildford seek to appoint an Organist from December 2015, or earlier, to assist our Director of Music in leading our main Church Choir and Chamber Choir. Parish Church of St Nicolas, Guildford. We are looking to recruit a Director of Music & Organist to start this autumn. We are a very warm and friendly church community in the centre of Guildford town, rooted in the catholic tradition, but open and engaged to new ways of being church, and to connect with the world around us. Organist/Musician required for job share at St Giles the Abbot Church, Farnborough, Kent. An opportunity has arisen for a musician to share in the musical provision at St. Giles the Abbot, Farnborough, Kent. St George, Bickley (Bromley) seeks to appoint a Director of Music and Organist from January 2016, for duty on Sundays, and in the evening on some Holy Days. A small but able choir sings a Mass setting and anthem. There is an excellent two-manual Walker organ, and a superb acoustic. We observe the complete liturgies of Holy Week. Choral Evensong is sung 3-4 times a year. The successful applicant will be available as described, and to rehearse the choir on Thursday evenings.
