Celebration Day 2010

Saturday 15 May 2010, Durham Cathedral

The RSCM Celebration Day service will be held at Durham Cathedral on Saturday 15th May. This annual service celebrates the work of the RSCM both nationally and locally, and is also the occasion on which we recognise those who have contributed to our work and to church music by making a presentation of RSCM honorary awards.

The music will be led by a massed choir made up of singers from RSCM-affiliated choirs in the region, directed by James Lancelot. The Durham Cathedral Choir will also be taking part.

Singing in the Celebration Day Choir

All RSCM members and friends and those who sing with RSCM-affiliated choirs are welcome to apply to join the massed choir for the service - see booking form below. (Please note that as this service is being held in Durham, the local RSCM Area Committee will not be arranging a separate Choir Festival in 2010.) Singers are welcome to participate whether robed or unrobed.

All places in the choir are now taken, but you are welcome to apply for the cancellation waiting list.

The booklet containing all the music for the service is now available. Each singer should purchase a copy from RSCM Music Direct and learn the pieces thoroughly beforehand (rehearsal time on the day will be limited).

The music includes:

Hymn: Praise, my soul, the king of heaven
Kyrie: Missa Orbis Factor (plainsong)
Canticle: Bless the Lord (David Johnson)
Anthem: Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace (Samuel S Wesley)
Canticle: A Song of the Lamb (Philip Duffy)
Anthem: Grant to your servants, O God (Richard Lloyd)
Hymn: Praise the Lord! His glories show
Anthem: Te Deum Laudamus in C (Charles Villiers Stanford)
Hymn: Go at the call of God

The timetable for the day is:
10.15am - Singers assemble, allocation of seating
10.45am – 12.15pm - Rehearsal in the Cathedral, followed by break for lunch and robing
2.00pm - Service (we expect the service to be over by 3.30pm)

Please note that all young people attending Celebration Day must be under the care of an adult from their church / choir during the day. Choir trainers are reminded to obtain parental permission in writing from parents / guardians of all participants under 18 years old. Our recommended parental consent form is below, which should be retained by your choir trainer after completion, not returned to Salisbury with the application form.
