It is vitally important, if you want to engage the singers in a choir, to choose the right repertoire. In line with the Voice for Life philosophy, a range of repertoire and resources published by RSCM Press give singers the opportunity to:
Every year the Voice for Life team produces a new themed festival service, as part of the RSCM’s outreach to encourage and inspire singers. They are wonderful opportunities for young people from schools and churches to join together in song in fabulous venues across the UK. Young singers find them to be inspiring musical and spiritual experiences, and they also benefit from the chance to develop vocal and musical skills under expert musical direction. Individual items can subsequently be used in a choir’s home church or school in special services, concerts or assemblies.
Choirs may like to put on their own special service in their church, school or community using the festival service resources. The music is arranged for equal voices and can therefore be used by mixed voice or upper voice choirs. Choirs might use a festival service as the basis of a fundraising event, or to mark RSCM Music Sunday. A guidance pack to help organise your own event is available below.
What is included in a Voice for Life Festival Service?
Young Voices Festival – Guidance Pack:
Young Voices Festivals are ideal resources for you to use in your school or church, to encourage young people to sing together. The documents available here will help you to prepare for a festival service and arrange for other school or church choirs to join you.
Please note that if you are arranging an event on behalf of an RSCM Area Committee, you will need to register the event with the RSCM office using an Event Registration Form as usual.
The Voice for Life Songbooks contain a range of material compiled with young people and singers at beginner and intermediate levels in mind. With traditional church music, gospel and jazz, and songs from around the world, these volumes will appeal to singers of all ages, and provide your choir with the opportunity to explore a range of musical styles.
The vocal parts are photocopiable, and training notes and demonstration tracks are included.
To help singers and choir trainers prepare for the Bronze and Silver awards, the RSCM has produced repertoire collections with these awards in mind.
