Junior Millennium Youth Choir

The RSCM Junior Millennium Youth Choir is a new initiative for young boy and girl choristers aged aged 10-17. The groups, drawn from across the country, will perform on a regular basis with Voices and Cathedral Singers, as well as doing some events with the main MYC group.

We are keen for any existing choristers to retain commitment to their local church choirs on a Sunday, so rehearsals will likely fall in the half term breaks and gap after Easter. There will be occasional Saturday commitments when we perform at major churches and cathedrals.

There will be two ‘launch’ events for the first two northern branches of JMYC in February half term: one in Middlesbrough and one in Halifax, with the same programme at each. These half days will be an opportunity to experience what JMYC all about, and undergo a short voice test.

The rest of the programme will include further half-day sessions in the Easter holidays at the same venues, a joint event in June to bring everyone together, and the opportunity to get involved with a short residential course at the end of the summer holidays.

If you live in an area not currently covered by JMYC, please get in touch so that we can keep you up to date with future venues.

Joining the Junior Millennium Youth Choir

Membership of the Junior Millennium Youth Choir is open to singers of any voice part between 10 and 17 years of age, and entry is by audition.

Audition requirements

2018 Audition requirements will be listed here shortly.

The audition will explore speed of learning, sense and control of pitch, response to text, ability to hold an independent part and voice quality.

How much will it cost?

Each JMYC event has its own fee. Attendance at each of the initial half-day sessions in Middlesbrough and Halifax is £5 per child.

Is there any financial assistance available?

We have bursary funding available to assist singers who cannot afford the full cost of membership. The application form will be made available to those who have passed an audition.

Adrian Lucas

Adrian Lucas, Director of JMYC

As Director of both Junior MYC and MYC, Adrian has all the experience you’d expect as an ex-cathedral organist, and an impressive array of first performances of music which he has conducted with major choirs and orchestras. He has an interest in jazz and likes to include some in his organ concert programmes! He is noted for taking a lively and fun rehearsal, and for demanding (and getting) high standards from his singers. When not doing this you are likely to find him flying a plane somewhere, having had time for some exciting hobbies since he finished working for his last cathedral post. Adrian is married to Joanna and they have two grown-up children. Adrian also runs his own recording company (www.acclaimproductions.co.uk), which also makes CDs and downloads for Naxos, Signum and Toccata, amongst others.
